Cosmetic box

This cylindrical, covered cosmetic box (bi-it) is woven from bamboo and embellished with black lacquer. The box contains a red and black lacquer tray. The exterior is embellished with thayo (lacquer putty) work in relief with mirror inlay and a thick layer of gold leaf.
