Straits Chinese jade pendant

Pendants with religious symbols and/or small containers (with a sheet of red paper inscribed with a prayer or mystical formulae folded and kept in the container) are used as amulets or talismans. It is believed that the amulet or talisman, when worn around the neck, will protect the wearer from sickness, bad luck and evil.
