Reminder notice on National Service registration

On 14 March 1967, National Service was made compulsory for all young men in Singapore. The first batch, consisting of 900 National Servicemen, reported for duty four months after it was made compulsory. Typically, the age at which young men are enlisted is 18, though there are cases where men are enlisted at 16 or 17 years of age. The National Service Act was passed not only for defence purposes but also to develop a sense of nationalism and to foster strong ties among men of varied backgrounds.
