Watercolour painting of female Malay street hawkers

This is a watercolour painting of itinerant vegetable vendors. Itinerant hawking gave many people an opportunity to earn a livelihood. It required little capital but generated good income. Legalising and housing these itinerant hawker gained momentum in the 1960s and 1970s. By the late 1980s, itinerant hawkers slowly disappeared from the Singapore streets.
