Zardozi which is embroidery using metal wire twisted into various shapes, has been in long usage as an ornamentation of special clothes and objects. Popular from the 17th century, zardozi spread from the Awadh region to the rest of the Mughal dominions, although up till recently, it could only be afforded by the upper classes.
