Watercolour of a Zoroastrian temple scene

This painting shows a Zoroastrian ritual taking place at an agiary (Zoroastrian fire temple). As Zoroastrian temples are only restricted to members of the faith, this painting provides a rare look at Zoroastrian temple ritual for outsiders. The use of realism – using western methods of depth and perspective, to showcase everyday themes and subjects – was popular in Indian art of this time.
