Travel by The East Asiatic Company Travel Poster

Established in 1897, the Danish East Asiatic Company initially serviced Europe and a number of Asian countries, offering passenger service as well as trade in rice, timber, oilseed and spices. In this poster of a nighttime image with illuminated ports-of-call on a darkened map in the background, a passenger service ship, possibly the Selandia, is shown in the distance with a small junk and two Asian sailors onboard.The image for this poster was also used on other promotional material like brochures. The passenger service advertised at this time was carried by the vessels Falstria, Selandia, Jutlandia, Lalandia, Meonia and served a number of ports of call in Asia, namely Penang, Port Swettenham, Singapore and Bangkok.
