Easter

Easter is a Christian festival that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is celebrated by Christians worldwide. In the lead-up to Easter, some Christians observe Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and penance. Some churches in Singapore also re-enact Christ’s washing of his disciples’ feet on Maundy Thursday, the Thursday before Easter. The next day, Good Friday, is a public holiday in Singapore.

Christians celebrate the actual day of Easter by attending early morning church services held at outdoor locations, but non-Christians are also invited to attend church services to find out more about the faith. Non-Christians may also make use of the long weekend to take part in secular, Easter-themed activities such as egg hunts and Easter brunches or tea. Easter brunches are tied to Singaporeans’ love for food, and consequently, many restaurants offer brunch promotions and egg hunts for children.
