    Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah

    Kampong Glam Heritage Trail Three explores the interesting landmarks in Kampong Glam’s outlying area along Victoria Street and Kallang Road. This area was once covered with marshes and mangroves, and dotted with tombs in the early 19th century. Learn more about the Malabar Muslim community in Singapore, as well as one of the oldest surviving madrasahs. Explore a church that is more than 120 years old, and visit the bustling transport terminal at Queen Street which provides services between Singapore and Malaysia. Covered along the route is also a sacred Muslim cemetery where non-Muslims were prohibited from entering in the early 20th century.

    Istana Kampong Gelam

    This Malay Historic District used to be and still is the hub of the Muslim community today. It was gazetted as a Conservation Area in 1989. Most of the buildings here are shophouses, the majority of which have remained intact over the years, retaining with them the rich culture and history of yesteryears. The shophouse is one of the most significant building types in Singapore’s architectural heritage, reflecting much of the island’s history and development.
